True Wave™ Infrared Heater Technology

ImageImage

Over the last eight years, there has been a big debate as to whether carbon heaters or ceramic heaters are “better.” Carbon heaters produce high quality, long wave infrared heat, but the main drawback is they do not produce an abundance infrared heat. Ceramic heaters are powerful and emit a lot of infrared heat, but the wavelength tends to be shorter, and thus they’re less therapeutic. Also, ceramic heaters are so hot that for a safe environment, only a few ceramic heaters can be placed in the sauna. It’s not possible to have ceramic heaters on all 4 walls, behind the legs and under the floor.

Years of research ended the debate over which of these 2 heaters is superior by introducing the ONLY hybrid carbon-ceramic far infrared heater. Clearlight® True Wave™ Far Infrared Heaters combine carbon and ceramic to produce healing infrared heat that is unmatched.  These unique heaters are comprised of micro-thin carbon fibers (1/1000th the thickness of a human hair) combined with a patented micro-fine ceramic compound for higher infrared output (emissivity.) Clearlight® manufactures all of their heaters in their own factory in a special process with the carbon-ceramic layers alternated with layers of a woven substrate which combine under high heat and pressure to create the hybrid heater. This innovative process produces a heater with tremendous output and high thermal emissivity. The heater is then tested under power for several hours and measured for the electrical draw, surface temperature and EMF levels.

The carbon in Clearlight® heaters allows the heater to produce long wave far infrared heat. This long wave infrared heat is readily absorbed, penetrating deep into the body. The ceramic in their heaters gives the heaters a very high infrared output when compared to traditional carbon heaters.  All Clearlight® Sauna models utilize True Wave™ far infrared heaters.

Clearlight® also developed the first and only virtually no-EMF hybrid carbon-ceramic heaters. This patent pending process allows them to cancel out virtually all the EMF (electromagnetic fields.)

Using a laboratory grade EMF meter and measuring directly on top of the True Wave™ heaters, EMF output is less than 1 milligauss (mg.) Compare this to over 100 milligauss for most of the competitor’s carbon based heaters. Clearlight® says there is no EMF exposure in their saunas because when you test EMF levels where you’re sitting in the sauna, there is virtually no EMF exposure.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH HEALTHY HEAT

The larger size of Clearlight® True Wave™ Far Infrared heaters mean more surface area, resulting in lower surface temperature. The result of this low temperature is that their heaters produce more FAR or LONG wave infrared heat which is more therapeutic for your body. This means better performance within the optimal wavelength range of 6 to 12 microns with a large portion of wavelengths at 9.4 microns. The human body absorbs more infrared at 9.4 microns.

With the high far infrared output (emissivity) of Clearlight® heaters, you not only get the highest quality infrared heat, but you get a lot of it, and right where you want it – your body core. The heaters are positioned so that they surround your body concentrating the heat on your body core.

The key to infrared therapy is heating your body directly, so you want heat on the front of your body and on the back of your body. For this reason, every Clearlight® sauna has heaters on the front wall, back wall, side walls, underneath the bench, next to your calves and in the floor.  Surrounding yourself in deeply penetrating infrared heat is essential to get the most out of your sauna experience.

SHIELDED METAL CONDUIT WIRING

Clearlight® utilizes a number of different strategies to reduce the EMF and ELF exposure in each sauna. In addition to doubling up on all the carbon-ceramic heaters in a back-to-back position, thereby canceling out the EMF radiating from the heaters, Clearlight® is one of the few sauna companies to take the extra steps to run the electrical wiring through metal conduit. Another method we employ to further reduce the ELF and EMF exposure, is to twist the electrical wires. Together, all these individual strategies create a very clean, low EMF and low ELF environment.

Independent laboratory testing found the ELF levels of Clearlight® Sauna to be very low. When testing the sauna, the Threshold of Concern was 10 Volts/Meter (V/m) which is the same as 1,000 millivolts (mV). In the tests that were performed, Clearlight® Infrared Saunas averaged 3.4 V/m. When we tested the saunas of several of our competitors, the measurement was 300+ V/m, substantially over the Threshold of Concern.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING A FAR INFRARED HEATER

We understand the difficulty in choosing an infrared sauna and trying to determine which heaters will work best for you. The following are a few questions to ask when comparing various heaters:

  1. What is the surface temperature of the heater?
The is one of the most important questions as it determines the size the of the infrared wavelength and the overall effectiveness of the heater. The two scientific principals that govern infrared emissions are called Planks Law and Weins Law. Both of these scientific laws have an equation with several constants and the only variable is the surface temperature of the heater. They both say that the lower the surface temperature of the heater (within a certain practical range), the longer the infrared wave will be and the more effective the infrared heat will be for you.

  2. Does the sauna have front and back heaters?
One of the keys to sweating and effective detoxification in an infrared sauna is warming your body and raising your core body temperature. You want to find a sauna that heats both the back and front of your body. You cannot detox as effectively in an infrared sauna that doesn't expose the front of your body to infrared wavelengths. Many saunas on the market today have no front heaters – a huge mistake in our opinion. Clearlight® True Wave™ heaters are positioned so that they cover your full back area and the front heaters are positioned so that they are aimed at your front core. They do an excellent job of warming your body core and raising your core body temperature.

  3. Is the far infrared heat directed where it’s most needed?
Clearlight® has found that the problem with traditional carbon heaters is that, while they produce high quality infrared heat, they don’t produce a lot of it and it is not concentrated on your body. These heaters work well when they are within a few inches of your body as in some of the lay down infrared units, but not when they are in a large sauna cabin. The heaters go all the way up over your head and are really just heating the sauna cabin air. Because infrared heat travels in a straight line, you want to make sure that the heater directs the heat toward your body core, not just into the air around you.

  4. Radiant heat vs. reflected heat:
You will see many heaters on the market that are a thin, single rod with a metal reflector behind it. Generally, these heaters produce low quality far infrared heat when compared to a large flat panel far infrared heater. First, a single rod heater must run at a much higher surface temperature than a large flat radiant heater to produce sufficient infrared heat. As mentioned above, the higher the surface temperature the less effective the infrared heat will be.

GENTLE HEAT THAT PENETRATES DEEP

Due to the lower surface temperature of True Wave™ Far Infrared Heaters, sitting in your Clearlight® sauna is more enjoyable. You’ll find the heat in your Clearlight® Sauna model gentler than most, yet deeper and more penetrating – overall a better sauna experience.

In their book Beyond Antibiotics, Drs. Michael A. Schmidt et al. state the following:

“Saunas are being used by some doctors to stimulate the release of toxins from the bodies of their patients. They have found that a lower temperature (105-125 F) sauna taken for a longer duration is most beneficial. These low temperatures stimulate a fat sweat, which eliminates toxins stored in fat, as opposed to the high temperature sauna, which encourages a water sweat.”

TUNED FAR INFRARED FOR OBSERVABLE RESULTS

The human body sends and receives far infrared waves. The range of far infrared waves generated by the human body is 6 to 20 microns. The optimal micron output range of an infrared heater is between 6 and 12 microns which is very close to the resonant frequency of a water molecule and the optimum infrared absorption rate of the human body. This similarity makes sense since our bodies are almost 70% water. This range, sometimes called the “Vital Rays” appears to have special regenerative effects on the body.

When far infrared waves are applied to water molecules, these molecules begin to vibrate. This vibration reduces the ion bonds and the eventual breakdown of the water molecules causes encapsulated gasses and other toxic materials to be released.

The result of Clearlight® True Wave™ patent pending heater designs allows for better performance well within this vital wave range of 6 to 12 microns with a good portion of wavelengths at the frequency at which a water molecule resonates or vibrates. This vibration causes a release of cellular toxins such as mercury, aluminum, cholesterol and toxic gasses such as sulfur and formaldehyde. This optimal micron output also allows for deeper penetration of far infrared heat, which improves pain relief, detoxification, circulation, and increased peripheral blood flow.

CLEARLIGHT® HYBRID CARBON-CERAMIC FAR INFRARED HEATERS COMPARED TO OTHER HEATERS

Don’t be fooled by marketing hype and supposed studies stating only one material is better for producing far infrared heat – know the facts. When evaluating a material for its properties to give off far infrared heat we evaluate its “emissivity”. Emissivity is the measure of an object’s ability to emit far infrared energy. Emissivity can have a value from 0 (shiny mirror) to 1.0 (blackbody).

Raytek, one of the leading infrared instrument manufactures has the following emissivity tables on their website. When reading the table, please note the values in 5-14 micron ranges – the “vital” range for healing the human body (the symbol μm stands for “micron”). You will see ceramic has an emissivity of .95 – the closest to a perfect black body at 1.0. That is why the patented ceramic compound that is added to Clearlight® True Wave™ heaters is so important.

Please note the highlighted entry’s in the table:

Most infrared heaters used in competitors’ saunas were designed for industrial use. These infrared heaters are used to cure the paint on cars because it heats the paint from the inside out or as room heaters. Clearlight® Infrared True Wave™ II heaters were designed by them, specifically for use in their saunas and they were designed to heat the human body.

CLEARLIGHT® TRUE WAVE™ FULL SPECTRUM INFRARED HEATERS

All Clearlight® Sanctuary Sauna models include their True Wave™ Full Spectrum infrared heaters.  These heaters are high output infrared heaters producing near, mid and far infrared. Every Clearlight® Sanctuary Sauna model has 1,000 watts of full spectrum infrared. That’s 25 times the power of the closest competitor.

WHAT IS FULL SPECTRUM INFRARED?

Near, Mid and Far Infrared
Image

The infrared spectrum is comprised of near, mid and far infrared.  While the majority of the benefits you receive in your Clearlight® sauna come from the far infrared band, there are added benefits and enhancements by adding in all three wavelengths.

Clearlight® True Wave™ Full Spectrum heaters emit about 1/3 near infrared, 1/3 mid infrared and 1/3 far infrared.

The following are some of the benefits of full spectrum infrared therapy:

  • Near Infrared is the shortest wavelength, and will be absorbed just below the surface of the skin creating a sweat that promotes healing and revitalization.
  • Mid infrared is a longer wavelength that can penetrate deeper into the body’s soft tissue increasing circulation, releasing oxygen to reach injured areas.
  • Far infrared is the longest wavelength which penetrates the fat cells causing vasodilation, where the fat cells vibrate to expel toxins, resulting in the greatest levels of detoxification and stimulate your metabolism to aid in weight-loss.
